Prof. Giuseppe Malleo MD Ph.D

Prof. Giuseppe Malleo received his MD degree cum laude in 2006 from the University of Messina. In the same year he was awarded the “Bonino-Pulejo” research fellowship grant, and conducted different projects on experimental acute pancreatitis between the HPB unit of the Manchester Royal Infirmary (UK) and the Department of Pharmacology of the University of Messina. He obtained his certification in General Surgery at the University of Verona in 2013. He received a grant from the Italian Ministry of Health to study the genomic alterations of pancreatic neoplasms (2013-2016). Furthemore, Prof. Malleo earned a Ph.D in surgical sciences and pancreatobiliary diseases at the University of Verona; and was a Research Physician at the Clinical Research Center of the University of Verona Hospital Trust. He has been an attending surgeon at the Unit of Pancreatic Surgery since 2016, and served from 2018 to 2021 as an Assistant Professor of Surgery. He is currently Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Verona.

Prof. Malleo performed more than 1700 procedures in General and Vascular Surgery, including more than 700 pancreatic resections (also with minimally invasive techniques). His research interests are focused on pancreatic adenocarcinoma. He is author/coauthor of more than 290 full-text papers in peer-reviewed journals (to see the publication list click here), his impact factor exceeds 1300 and his H-index is 61 (Google Scholar). Furthermore, he is author of 17 book chapters, and participated to more than 55 national and international meetings as a faculty member.

He was awarded the AISP prize (Associazione Italiana per lo Studio del Pancreas) in 2007, the European Pancreatic Club travel grant in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014; the European Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association young investigator award in 2013, and the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association best oral presentation award in 2014. He was the 2019 European Pancreatic Club YOUPPIE awardee, a honorific appointment for clinical or basic pancreatologists  under 45 years. He was included in the list of top italian scientists (www.topitalianscientists.org). He is the secretary of the Italian Association of Pancreatology (AISP) and the co-chair of the European-African Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (EAHPBA) scientific committee. He also serves as associate editor of Digestive Surgery.

Prof. Malleo is also interested in statistical analysis. He is member of different scientific societies, including: Associazione Italiana per lo Studio del Pancreas (AISP), European Pancreatic Club (EPC), International Association of Pancreatology (IAP), The Pancreas Club, European-African Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (E-AHPBA), and International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (IHPBA).

He has been member of the Verona Ethical Committee for Clinical Experimentations from 2016 to 2023.
